Respirator Fit Test Adapter Chart and NIOSH Lookup Guide
Use this respirator fit-test adapter chart to find documented attachment options by manufacturer, facepiece family, and connector. It covers 29 entries in TSI’s adapter directory, additional manufacturer-specific attachments, filtering-facepiece probes, and tight-fitting PAPR configurations.
For sampling details, fabricated-adapter considerations, and PAPR test setup, read our quantitative fit testing attachments and adapters guide.
Scope: This chart is primarily for PortaCount ambient-aerosol testing. It identifies documented adapter references; it does not certify NIOSH approval or guarantee compatibility with every configuration in a product family. Confirm the complete assembly and current instructions before use. Technical sources reviewed October 8, 2026.
Start with the NIOSH Certified Equipment List
Use the NIOSH Certified Equipment List for the comprehensive approval listing. Search by the TC approval number on the product’s approval label, or narrow by manufacturer, facepiece type, and protection. Private-label names may require the advanced search. Open the approval details, not just the search-result name. NIOSH search guidance
NIOSH approval and adapter compatibility answer different questions:
Verification | What it establishes |
NIOSH approval record and approval label | The identified respirator assembly’s approval and limitations. |
Manufacturer’s adapter instructions | The documented fit-test connection for the named equipment. |
Complete test setup review | Appropriate filters, sampling route, valves, instrument, and protocol. |
Individual fit-test result | Whether the tested wearer and respirator combination met that test’s criterion. |
NIOSH issues approval for specific, complete respirator assemblies. A test fitting does not become approved workplace protective equipment merely because it attaches to an approved facepiece. NIOSH notice on replacement components
Check approval by the actual assembly’s TC number. TSI’s international and legacy catalog also covers equipment outside a current U.S. NIOSH-approved configuration. Inclusion in an adapter catalog is not proof of NIOSH approval.
NIOSH approval schedules to search
The schedules help organize the full respiratory-protection field; they are not adapter categories.
CEL schedule | Main equipment group |
84A | Particulate air-purifying respirators, including combination particulate/gas/vapor configurations. |
23C | Gas/vapor cartridge respirators, including some PAPRs. |
21C | Particulate PAPRs. |
14G | Gas-mask/canister respirators and some PAPRs. |
19C | Supplied-air/airline respirators. |
13F | Self-contained breathing apparatus. |
13G | Closed-circuit escape respirators. |
These groupings follow NIOSH’s CEL guide. A family may appear in more than one approved assembly; do not assign a single approval number to a brand.
An obsolete approval is not necessarily revoked or rescinded. Check NIOSH’s record and notices for the actual status.
How to read the adapter chart
The linked part numbers below lead to the manufacturer’s documentation. Most TSI rows establish a cataloged family or connector match—not every model, size, communications accessory, or regulator variant.
Before ordering, confirm:
Exact facepiece identification and the actual connector.
Whether the listed number is a complete kit, a conversion fitting, or a sampling adapter.
Required filters, internal tubing, valves, clips, and consumables.
Whether a powered or supplied-air assembly needs conversion for testing.
Current instructions, availability, and the route for restoring operational use.
“Not confirmed” means the reviewed evidence does not establish the combination. It does not mean no workable adapter exists.
3M and Scott
Respirator family or interface | TSI kit and source | Important distinction |
3M reusable facepieces with the specified bayonet interface | Not a Secure Click adapter.
Scott standard full-face family | Catalog entry only; the individual product link was unavailable. Reconfirm exact models and supply.
Scott AV-3000 SureSeal and AV-3000HT | Kit combines AV-632 conversion hardware with a 601 sampling adapter and test filtration.
Scott Vision C5 | Dedicated C5 listing; do not assume an AV-3000 kit substitutes. |
MSA
Respirator family or interface | TSI kit and source | Important distinction |
MSA large-diameter threaded connection | Distinguish from RD40 and bayonet connections.
MSA Ultravue threaded configuration | Check the exact facepiece and communications configuration.
MSA Ultravue quarter-turn configuration | The Q suffix identifies a different listed configuration.
MSA RD40 threaded configuration | Do not substitute a different MSA connector by brand alone.
MSA Ultra Elite quarter-turn configuration | Separate listing from Ultravue 8025-15Q.
MSA military bayonet family | Special-purpose listing; NIOSH/CBRN approval must be checked separately.
MSA Advantage bayonet family | Identify the exact Advantage model; the name alone is insufficient.
MSA push-to-connect and slide configurations | Identify which connection is fitted.
MSA G1 push-to-connect facepiece | G1-specific listing; do not assume 8025-31 compatibility. |
Honeywell North, Survivair, and Willson
Respirator family or interface | TSI kit and source | Important distinction |
Survivair S-type threaded configuration | Keep S-type and T-type configurations separate.
Survivair facepieces with mask-mounted regulators | A mask-mounted regulator listing does not establish belt-mounted-system compatibility.
North threaded and specified SCBA configurations | Confirm the full model and operating assembly.
Survivair T-type and Willson T/GT | Catalog-listed; legacy cross-reference discrepancies require confirmation.
Willson/GPT F-series | Do not combine with the T/GT entry. |
Dräger, Interspiro, and other connector families
Respirator family or interface | TSI kit and source | Important distinction |
Dräger large RD91 thread | Not the RD40 entry.
Dräger 40 mm and P-type configurations | Not evidence of X-plore twin-bayonet compatibility.
Interspiro Spiromatic | Separate from Interspiro-S.
Interspiro-S | Confirm the suffix and actual facepiece.
Moldex 7000 and 9000 families | Do not extend this listing to the 8000 series.
Gerson twin-filter bayonet family | Match the specific facepiece and filter interface.
US Safety family in TSI’s catalog | Broad catalog wording still requires exact-model confirmation.
Protector Phantom 48 mm connection | A 48 mm entry is not an RD40 entry.
Specified Avon and military facepieces | Check the individual model; military use does not establish NIOSH approval.
Compatible RD40 threaded configurations | Matching thread dimensions alone do not validate sampling geometry or the complete setup.
Specified military masks with a drinking connection | Uses a drinking-tube sampling approach; confirm the mask and internal path. |
Additional manufacturer-specific adapters
These entries supplement the TSI catalog. They are not interchangeable merely because two parts serve the same respirator family.
Facepiece or configuration | Attachment and primary source | Configuration detail |
Specified 3M bayonet facepieces | Match the facepiece-specific internal tubing and filter arrangement.
3M Secure Click HF-800SD | Uses the speaking-diaphragm position; plain HF-800 requires the documented alternative approach.
3M Secure Click FF-801/802/803 | Full-face adapter; not HF-800-03.
MSA Advantage 200LS and 3200 | Bayonet adapter; the 3200 sample inlet must be inside the nose cup.
MSA Advantage 420 | Confirm the exact assembly against the current instructions.
GVS Elipse SPR451/457/449/456 and Integra SPR549/550/551/552 | These P100/nuisance-odor variants are explicitly named in GVS’s compatibility list.
GVS Elipse/Integra gas-and-vapor configurations | Separate catalog entry for gas/vapor cartridges; confirm the current model-specific setup.
Sundström SR 100/SR 900 half masks and SR 200 full mask | Filter-holder connection; international listing specifies SR 510 P3 R. Confirm the applicable U.S. configuration.
Sundström SR 100/SR 900/SR 90-3 half masks | Exhalation-valve connection; a different attachment approach from T01-1207.
Dräger X-plore 3300/3500/5500 | Legacy reference only: obtain current Dräger confirmation before ordering or testing. |
For the Scott AV-3000 kit, the AV-632 establishes the negative-pressure conversion connection; it does not itself provide the PortaCount sampling ports. The 601 supplies the sampling path. That distinction is documented in TSI’s 8025-36 description.
Do not mistake photo-reference codes for order numbers. For example, Dräger’s X-plore 5500 brochure labels images with ST codes while showing separate PortaCount and OHD adapters. Those image labels alone are not a verified purchasing specification. Dräger brochure
Disposable filtering facepieces
Use NIOSH’s filtering-facepiece search guidance to locate approved models. “N95” describes a filtration class, not a unique model.
Respirator group | Test attachment | Required check |
Compatible filtering facepieces | Shape-specific probe placement and the correct instrument mode/protocol. |
Our attachments guide covers probe installation and placement. A punctured test respirator must not return to protective service.
Tight-fitting PAPRs and positive-pressure systems
For a tight-fitting PAPR, supplied-air respirator, or SCBA facepiece, OSHA requires fit testing in negative-pressure mode. The working assembly may need more than a sampling fitting to establish that test configuration. OSHA 1910.134(f)(8)
System | Documented attachment or configuration | Critical limitation |
CleanSpace half masks covered by the supplement | Power-off procedure applies. PAF-1036 grommets are optional in the cited supplement; remove them before powered use.
Older CleanSpace PAF-1014/PAF-1106 full masks | Confirm the generation of the actual facepiece.
CleanSpace full masks described as manufactured after 2018 | Do not order the older adapter solely from the brand name.
Specified 3M GVP/Breathe Easy/Powerflow and supplied-air facepieces | Legacy bulletin is explanatory, not a current universal parts list. Confirm the complete current assembly.
3M Powerflow 6000PF | The 6894 nose cup is not approved in the operating Powerflow configuration.
Other tight-fitting PAPR/SAR/SCBA systems | Manufacturer-confirmed conversion and sampling arrangement | Unresolved until the exact assembly is identified. |
Loose-fitting hood or helmet | No tight face-seal fit-test adapter |
A manufacturer’s defined negative-pressure configuration is not authorization to use the respirator at work with its blower disconnected or switched off. It also does not turn a PortaCount test into a controlled-negative-pressure instrument test.
Keep controlled negative pressure adapters separate
This chart is primarily a PortaCount/ambient-aerosol reference. OHD’s QuantiFit2 uses controlled negative pressure and has a different measurement path and adapter system.
Do not transfer adapter numbers or inhalation-valve preparation between methods without explicit documentation. Maintain a separate CNP inventory if offering that method. A facepiece being testable by both methods does not make their attachments equivalent.
Legacy listings and compatibility questions
Some references require a model-specific answer from the manufacturer before a part can be selected. An unresolved entry does not establish that the respirator cannot be tested.
Item | What remains unresolved | Next verification |
Current NIOSH approval | An adapter listing does not establish approval of the working assembly. | Match the actual approval label and complete assembly to the CEL. |
Scott standard-family 8025-20 | Listed in TSI’s directory, but its product link did not resolve during this review. | Obtain the current part/model listing and availability. |
Survivair T-type and Willson T/GT | TSI’s current catalog names 8025-19; its 2020 cross-reference contains 8025-17 entries for these legacy families. | Ask TSI/Honeywell to resolve the exact configuration in writing. |
Dräger X-plore twin-bayonet models | 67 38 044 is supported here by an older cross-reference, not newly confirmed ordering instructions. | Obtain current Dräger instructions and part number. |
Newer or unlisted facepieces | No verified attachment should be inferred from a similar model. | Request model-specific instructions from the respirator and tester manufacturers. |
The legacy cross-reference is useful for identifying questions, but it is not the final authority for present-day setup or approval status. TSI 2020 cross-reference
Record a verified match before scheduling
For each actual client respirator, maintain one record containing:
Manufacturer, full model, size, and connector photographs.
TC approval number and approval-label reference.
Operational components and applicable limitations.
Testing method and instrument model.
Adapter and conversion-component part numbers.
Test filters, internal tube configuration, and consumables.
Instruction source, revision, and date checked.
Power-off or negative-pressure conversion requirements.
Return-to-service checks.
Whether all required parts are on hand.
That record turns a general reference into a usable scheduling and quality-control tool. A catalog match alone should not be marked “ready to test.”
